about our products:
himroo cloths
himroo is an age-old weaving art of aurangabad, in the maharashtra district of central india that can be traced as far back as the 14th century. since then this art has been preserved by a few local families for generations who claim to be the few remaining descendents that have preserved the original authentic art of himroo. these exquisite fabrics were originally woven in silk with gold and silver thread and were adorned by the royal families. today himroo cloths are more commonly found woven of silk/cotton and silk/wool mixes using the same looms. the result of this hand loomed process is a luxurious fabric that feels as fine as a spider’s web.
most himroo cloth made today are made by machine, however our himroo cloth is sourced from a local community based industry in aurangabad. the cloths continue to be made by hand on himroo looms, using the finest yarn-dyed indian silk, cotton and wool lending to deep, rich colors. the weave or pattern of the cloths have been adapted from the frescos of the ajanta and ellora caves as well as traditional mughul motifs to bring you scarves, wraps and home accessories that you will cherish for years.
tasar silks
tasar silks (pronounced tussah) is a copperish colour, course silk mainly used for furnishings and interiors. it is less lustrous than the mulberry silk but it has its own feel and appeal. tasar silk is generated by the silkworm antheraea mylitta, which thrives on the food plants asan and arjan and the rearings are conducted in nature on the trees in the open. the tasar culture is the main stay for many tribal communities in india.
here at tea we offer a range of tasar scarves produced from fully replenishable resources and have been crafted in local communities in rural india. each scarf is produced from hand-harvested silk reared on what would otherwise be wasted land. an acre of land planted with arjuna trees can produce 100 metres of fabric. by supporting workers locally and improving local incomes these communities can be sustained, reducing the migration to the big city’s by people searching for work.

alpaca wools
once treasured by inca royalty for its unique strength, lustre and slippery softness, alpaca hair has a hollow fibre, which renders it uniquely light and up to 30% warmer than the same weight of merino wool.
alpaca has no lanolin content, which together with an absence of the ‘prickle factor’ associated with ordinary wool, makes it ideally suited for babies and sensitive skins. it is up to 4 times harder wearing than merino wool and does not tend to pill or ball. the alpaca’s fleece occurs naturally in over 22 shades ranging from black, charcoal, silver, sand, brown and ivory.
alpaca improves with age. at tea we have found a producer of alpaca clothing that uses only the highest quality alpaca wool. these products may not feel as soft and supple when new as they will with continued wear. it is recommended not to trust alpaca products that have been brushed for softness, as this can be poorer quality alpaca in disguise.
silk duvets
based on a traditional japanese technique using hand-tied silk floss, the pure silk duvets we sell in our store combines natural luxury and healthiness. entirely made of silk, they are naturally anti-dustmite, offering an indulging alternative for allergy sufferers. exceptionally light and breathable, they adapt to body temperature, promoting well being and exceptional comfort in all seasons.
woven wild silk is commonly accepted to be one of the most eco-friendly and ethical fabrics available.
a pure silk duvet is very different to a traditional feather duvet. silk has the property of keeping the body at a constant temperature and letting it breathe (this is, after all, the role of the cocoon). you will never overheat under a pure silk duvet, and it will feel comfortable over a wide temperature range. note that for an equivalent level of warmth, a pure silk duvet will always be significantly thinner and lighter than a down one.
blanc cocoon duvets are the original "pure silk" duvets, where both the filling and casing are entirely made of silk. unlike a cotton-cased duvet, which retains moisture and is prone to dust-mites, our bedding provides incomparable comfort, breathability and true protection for allergy sufferers.
